HOSTAGE LIFE IS DONE ON FRIDAY. THE BAND IS BREAKING UP AND WE WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO PLAY WITH THEM IN ST. CATHERINES YESTERDAY AT THE 73. THESE GUYS RULE AND ARE THE NICEST FOLKS. I’M BUMMED WE DIDN’T GET TO KNOW THEM BETTER WHEN THEY WERE TOGETHER AS A BAND. I HOPE THE BEST FOR THEM IN THE FUTURE!

MY THROAT IS KILLING ME RIGHT NOW. ITS OUR THIRD SHOW ON OUR TOUR RIGHT NOW AND MY VOICE IS SHOT ALREADY. I’VE BEEN SICK EVER SINCE WE TOOK OFF FROM OUR HOME TOWN SHOW IN WOODBRIDGE. WE HAD A COUPLE DAYS TO KILL SO I DID MY BEST TO GET BETTER. AS MUCH AS I TRY TO TAKE CARE OF MY VOICE, ITS FAILED ON ME BOTH SHOWS.
THE PALOMINO, IN CALGARY, WAS GREAT. MY VOICE WAS SHOT BUT I DIDNT CARE. EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN THAT VENUE WAS SHAKING THEIR ASSES OFF TO OUR SONGS. I PLAYED MY HEART OUT. I SWEATED MY VOICE OUT. THE TAPHOUSE, IN ST. ALBERT, WAS POLAR OPPOSITE. I THINK I JINXED IT BY GETTING TOO EXCITED. I HOPED FOR TOO MUCH. IM SITTING AROUND THE BAR RIGHT NOW, SEAN BESIDE ME. I’M SLOWLY STARTING TO HOLD A GRUDGE AGAINST ST. ALBERT. I GOT SO FED UP ON STAGE WITH MY SHITTY VOICE AND EMOTIONLESS FACES, I PLACED MY MIC TO THE SIDE AND SUNG TO MY BAND.
I’M DREADING VANCOUVER. THE ONE SIDE, I’M SO EXCITED TO VISIT BRITISH COLUMBIA AGAIN BUT MY GUT IS TURNING THINKING ABOUT IT. MAYBE ITS BECAUSE WE HAVE TO DRIVE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT THROUGHOUT THE MOUNTAINS TO GET THERE, MAYBE ITS THE VENUE WERE PLAYING AND THE SKETCHY AREA THAT SURROUNDS IT. MAYBE ITS BECAUSE MY EX-BEST FRIEND MIGHT BE COMING TO THE SHOW THAT NIGHT.
MY FRIEND LIVES OUT IN VANCOUVER AND FOUND OUT WERE PLAYING AT THE COBALT. SHE WROTE SOMETHING ON MY FACEBOOK BUT I DIDNT RESPOND. SHE MESSAGED SEAN AND ASKED IF WE WERE COMING OUT THERE FOR REAL. SEAN ASKED ME WHAT TO DO. SEAN KNOWS WE DON’T TALK. I’M ALWAYS IN A RUT WHETHER OR NOT TO RESPOND. I DON’T HATE BUT I STOPPED CARING. I PUT HER ON THE GUESTLIST. IF SHE DECIDES TO COME OUT, SHE COMES.
MAYBE SHE WON’T COME. LIKE USUAL.

THIS GENTLEMAN HERE IS CHRIS CRESSWELL, SINGER AND ONE OF THE TWO GUITAR PLAYERS IN THE FLATLINERS. I WAS INTRODUCED TO HIM BY SEAN WHO USED TO WORK WITH HIM IN THE SAME MALL IN RICHMOND HILL(I THINK?).
I WROTE ‘BUISNESS NEVER PERSONAL’ ABOUT THREE YEARS AGO FROM ABOUT THIS TIME AND I NEVER THOUGHT THE SONG WAS COMPLETE EVEN WHEN WE PLAYED IT. SOMETIMES I SANG THE BREAKDOWN, MOST OF THE TIME I DIDN’T. IT NEVER FELT RIGHT FOR ME TO SING THAT PART OR TO HAVE ANOTHER SET OF GANG VOCALS FILL IT IN. NEITHER DID I FEEL SEAN OR DUNCAN SHOULD HAVE SUNG THAT PART ON THE RECORD, NOT THAT THEY COULDN’T HAVE BUT IT WOULD HAVE SEEMED TOO EASY TO DO THAT.
BEFORE SEAN INTRODUCED ME TO CHRIS AND THE OTHER HOMIES FROM THE FLATS, I HAD NEVER HEARD ANY OF THEIR STUFF. I ALWAYS ASSUMED THEY WERE SKA-PUNK OR WHATNOT AND I AM NOT A FAN OF NEW-AGED SKA. SOMETHING ABOUT IT JUST TURNS ME RIGHT OFF OF LISTENING TO MUSIC; I CAN’T TAKE IT SERIOUSLY AT ALL. BUT I GAVE THEIR ALBUM ‘THE GREAT AWAKE’ A LISTEN AND I WAS COMPLETELY HOOKED. NOT ONLY DID I GET THEIR STYLE OF MUSIC WRONG, THEY HAD SUCH AN INTENSITY TO THEM, YOU’D NEVER CONSIDER THAT THESE GUYS WERE AS YOUNG AS THEY WERE LISTENING TO THIS RECORD. CHRIS HAS A SCREAM SO HEAVY AND LOUD METALHEADS HANG THEIR HEAD IN SHAME. THE POWER OF HIS VOICE IS SO STRONG YOU’D NEVER THINK IT WAS HIM SINGING. HE’S GOT THE PERFECT BALANCE OF SCREAMING AND SINGING. I AM JEALOUS OF HIM.
I KNEW AS SOON AS I HEARD ‘THE GREAT AWAKE’ I NEEDED TO HAVE HIM SING ON THE BREAKDOWN SECTION OF ‘BUSINESS NEVER PERSONAL’. HE WAS NICE ENOUGH TO OBLIGE. NOT ONLY DID HE HAMMER OUT THE SECTION, HE ADDED HARMONIES TO HIS OWN PARTS. IF YOU HEAR HARMONIES IN HIS SINGING ON ‘BUISNESS’, THAT’S ALL HIM. WHENEVER I LISTEN TO THE SONG NOW, I FORGET THAT HE’S SINGING THAT PART CAUSE IT BLENDS IN SO WELL WITH THE ENTIRE SONG. THAT’S HOW I KNOW I MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE.
THIS MAN IS ONE OF THE NICEST PEOPLE I’VE MET AND ONE OF THE MOST SUPPORTIVE OF OUR BAND. THE FUCKIN’ GUY TEXTED ME AT 1:3O IN THE MORNING JUST TO SAY HE’S BEEN LISTENING TO OUR RECORD SINCE HE GOT IT. IT’S A SIGH OF RELIEF TO KNOW THAT THERE ARE STILL GOOD HEARTED PEOPLE MAKING GOOD HEARTED MUSIC IN THIS INDUSTRY. SAME GOES FOR JOHN, SCOTT AND PAUL.

JUST SAW LUCERO, TITUS ANDRONICUS, AND CAVALIERS PLAY AT THE HORSESHOE TAVERN IN THE LAST WEEK AND A HALF. LUCERO AND TITUS ANDRONICUS PLAYED TOGETHER ONE NIGHT EARLY LAST WEEK. I HEARD ABOUT TITUS ANDRONICUS FROM ALAN CROSS WHICH HE DEEMED WORTHY TO LISTEN TO. I’LL TAKE ALAN’S WORD FOR IT. I DIDNT EVEN KNOW THEY WERE PLAYING THAT NIGHT, WHAT LUCK! LUCERO TOOK THE STAGE AND PLAYED FOR TWO FUCKING HOURS. HOLY GOD I THOUGHT MY LEGS WERE GOING TO GIVE OUT. IT WAS MY FIRST TIME SEEING THEM AND IT WAS DEFINETLY WORTH IT.
HOWEVER, TODAY’S JEM IS THE DARLING BRITTON ALLISON(TOP PHOTO). SAW HER BAND, CAVALIERS, PLAY AT THE HORSESHOE ON SATURDAY AND IT WAS SUCH A GREAT SHOW. WE PLAYED A SHOW WITH THEM AT SNEAKY DEES A WHILE BACK AND EVER SINCE THEN, I’VE BEEN A FAN. THEY HAVE A TON OF INFLUENCES BUT I CAN DEFINITELY PICK UP THE RYAN ADAMS SOUND OFF OF THEM CAUSE IM A HUGE FAN OF HIS TOO. THEY HAVE GREAT DUEL VOCALS GOING ON PRETTY MUCH ALL THE TIME AND IT NEVER GETS OLD, BUT STILL GETS BETTER WITH TIME.
I WAS VERY FORTUNATE TO GET BRITTON ON OUR RECORD FOR AN ACOUSTIC SONG. SHE PROJECTS THE SONG PERFECTLY AND SETS THE TONE SO WELL. I HAD A FEW GIRLS IN MIND TO SING WITH ME ON THAT SONG BUT AS SOON AS I HEARD HER STUFF I WAS COMPLETELY SOLD. SO PSYCHED!
BRIT IS A SOLID PERSON AND SWEETER THAN SWEET SUGAR. BUT DON’T FUCK WITH HER MAN, OR SHE’LL FUCK YOU UP. I’VE SEEN IT.
WERD.

We played The Reverb on Sunday in support of The Cutting Edge Festival in search of a new artist. We actually got picked out of our region and were going to be up against the winners of the other regions playing at The Sound Academy. Anyways, we had a blast playing and the crowd seemed to enjoy our set. Brad from the Rusty Trombones came out to support us with his girlfriend. Dan from Crookedhook came out as he always does with Sheila, fuckin raddest couple ever. They always come out to our Toronto shows and I don’t think we thank them enough, so THANK YOU!
The show was filled with a bunch of hardcore kids playing hardcore music. One band was a dance fusion mixed with rock. I wasn’t too into them but for what they do, they were probably the best band of the night simply cause they were the most different out of the bunch. There was no drummer but a DJ who was singing. There was another band called Brane who sounded like a heavier version of Nickleback. They covered a Godsmack song, in which I wanted to smack them, and they covered the most typical song to cover from System of a Down, Chop Suey. I was not impressed at all and the million dollars in equipment didnt impress me either. I was waiting for the pyrotechniques to come out.
My favourite band of the night (and when i mean favourite, I mean I pretty much think they should never play again in there entire existence) was the last band. I think it was the last band; the heavy rock/hardcore band. The band actually wasn’t that bad, they had sort of a Black Flag style going on there which had some potential. I really liked the bass player, the fucking guy was intense and he stuck out from the rest, in a good way. The singer, however, was such a typical cock-rock dude that watched a couple of bands play on youtube and thought, “Shit, If I get up on stage and scream I’ll be a complete badass”. He’s definitely one of the guys who don’t get enough sex so they get on stage and pretend like its a pedestal. Or he might just have a small dick. I dont know. I’m surprised he didn’t take his shirt off and flex his sweet muscles. He didn’t surprise me however, when he mentioned his last song being something about sex or about the song being about him having sex the other night. It didn’t even suprise me after the show I saw him trying to pick a fight with another guy outside the venue. Not enough sex resorts to violence in this case. I guess it’s just confused energy. He might even be a little “confused’ himself, sexually oriented-wise. ‘Badass Dude’ wants to be the ‘man’ by starting a band and wave his small cock around. Hey ‘Badass Dude’ there are already bands like that in this field, and they suck.
Word of advice to the rest of the band: KICK THAT GUY OUT AND GET A GUY WHO DOESN’T THINK LISTENING TO HIMSELF GRUNTING WHILE HE WORKS OUT IS MUSIC!
Fuck you ‘Badass Dude’. Fuck you in your stupid ass.
kisses.

Well we’re almost done recording, just a few more tidbits of stuff to get done. It seems like we’ve been recording forever but we’ve really haven’t been in the studio that much. It’s just that our schedules are conflicting so much that going into the studio, the days are few, far and between.
Anyways, we got our gang vocals done and Chris and Scott were kind enough to help us out with that. Well Scott sort of helped, he drank more coffee than anything, haha. The rest of The Flats (Paul and John) headed over too.

Sean shredding his voice. Rizun in the reflection, not caring about anything. Bastard.

Paul shredding the guitar, or is the guitar shredding him??
